What to expect

Hey everyone, I am Jonathan Jones a public relations student as well as a junior at Georgia Southern University. As for why I wanted to study PR it actually didn’t come to me at first. I have been a a construction management major as well as a communication studies major. When I made the switch to comm studies I realized I loved the communication field but I wanted to study a more specific part of it thus inducing my switch to PR.

Through out this semester in my PR-Writing class we are required to make a blog so thus here I am. This exact blog will be a exercise to help us develop our public relations writing skills. I will be representing a student organization and producing work for them weather they decide to publish it or not.

Public relations practitioners have lots of modern tools available top them compared to traditional communication tools. With modern tools such as online news releases and email it allows the distribution of the information to be much easier and faster. It is also a lot more cost effective than traditional tools. Traditional tools such as printed copies and physical news papers cost more than sending it electronically. It also ads a barrier of transmission of the information. Ultimately the use of modern tools greatly helps the modern pr practitioners.

In today’s day and age it is hard to determine what is qualified to be in the news or not in other words what is “news worthy”. In my personal opinion anything that has a direct or indirect impact to the reader is viewer is news worthy. By that I mean if it is a major world or nationwide event it is definitely news worthy because it has a impact on the consumer.

But what about famous people being in the news? Like entertainment information or what is happening in a famous persons life? I also think this can be news worthy in the right place and context. If there is a war about to be going on there is no need to have a news report on what recently happened to the Kardashians, there are simply bigger fish to fry at the moment. But if there is not much going on yes it can be news worthy as a filler and it still attains to a certain pool of consumers if they like that celebrity.
